Good Shepherd School

Welcome to Good Shepherd School (GSS)! As an Episcopal early childhood program rooted in the love of God and guided by a commitment to the well-being and growth of young children, GSS seeks to nurture each child as a whole person—mind, body, and spirit.

Our school’s mission is to provide a safe, joyful, and developmentally appropriate environment where every child is known, loved, and encouraged to grow. Our policies, practices, and daily rhythms are shaped by the values we hold—grounded in faith, informed by our philosophy of early learning, and carried out through intentional and responsive care for children and families.

You’ll find that our mission is not simply stated, but lived out in the structure of our school: through the way we teach, the way we partner with families, and the way we create spaces for children to wonder, explore, and belong. From classroom routines to emergency protocols, every part of our program reflects our desire to cultivate a community where children flourish and families feel supported.

We are grateful to walk alongside you in this sacred and joy-filled journey!

Philosophy

We believe:

  • All of God’s children are special and unique.
  • Each child deserves to have his or her own talents realized.
  • Children need to be challenged and motivated in order to reach their full potential.
  • Learning begins in the home.
  • An active partnership between family, school and church is needed to prepare each child to live productively within the community.
  • Positive encouragement, nurturing and praise are essential for developing confidence and a positive self-image in children.
  • Creative play and social interaction are a major part of a well-balanced, educational curriculum for pre-school children.
