Fellowship

We like hanging out together at Good Shepherd.  We join supper clubs, turn out in droves for parish breakfasts, and swing from the trees at Parish Camp.  We gather to discuss books together at each others’ homes, we celebrate Mardi Gras boisterously (and with lots of bacon), and we turn our parish hall into a movie theater on Sunday summer nights.  Join us!

Shepherd’s Night Out

On Wednesday evenings throughout the school year, delicious meals, prepared by local chefs and restaurants, are offered for $10 for adults and $5 for children ages 3yrs-12yrs, with a family maximum of $30.  Take a night off from cooking; take the time for good food and conversation with friends and family!  Make this the one night a week you know you will eat together as a family.  Supper is preceded by our regular Eucharist at 5:30 p.m. (in the chapel), and followed by 45 minute programs for adults and youth, with childcare provided for little ones (infants, toddlers and children under 6).  Join us for this midweek oasis in your busy lives!

Good Shepherd Parish Camp

Every September our church family gathers for a weekend of camping fun.  We make s’mores, play games, do ropes courses, ride zip lines, canoe, kayak, sit on the porch for a spell, share meals and stories, worship outdoors and get to know each other better.  Parishioners and their guests are welcome to join us all weekend, for one night or just for the day on Saturday. Contact the church office at goodshepherd@gslookout.com or (423) 821-1583 to sign up or for more information.

Supper Clubs

Every fall parishioners have the opportunity to sign up for a supper club.  The supper club organizers put together intergenerational groups of 10-12 people who will gather for meals together six times between October and May.   Supper Clubs set mutually agreeable meeting times and can meet at each other’s homes, local restaurants, or even in our parish hall.  Supper clubs are a great way to get to know new people and to turn acquaintances into lifelong friends.  Supper clubs are open to all adults in the church.

Summer Parish Movie Nights

Every other Sunday evening from mid-June through mid-August we have parish movie night in Talbird Hall from 6-8 p.m.  We show movies appropriate for all ages on the big screen.  We fire up the popcorn machine, order pizzas and everyone brings their own beverages and chairs (often bean bags, sleeping bags, pillows and the like). For more information contact Kathleen Crevasse at kathleen@gslookout.com.

Blessing of the Animals

Each October, on the Sunday closest to the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi (October 4), we celebrate a Blessing of the Animals liturgy for our pet family members and the joy they bring to our lives.

Blessing of the Costumes

Every year on the Sunday closest to Halloween, children and adults who are young-at-heart are encouraged to attend the 10:30 am service for a special blessing of would-be trick-or-treaters and their costumes before embarking on their neighborhood candy quests.
