RSCMA Information

The Royal School of Church Music in America is affiliated with the Anglican organization, the Royal School of Church Music, founded in Englancd by Sir Sydney H. Nicholson to promote quality church music. Each year the organization sponsors weeklong courses or summer camps for singers of all ages across the U.S.  Good Shepherd has sent singers from the Junior Choir to these courses since 2007 in both Wilkes-Barre, PA and Charlotte, NC.

Two or three rehearsals a day, some with the large group and some by house (think Harry Potter- divided into houses by age group) are held across the host campus with the last rehearsal each day occurring at the hosting church. There is a different afternoon activity each day and Compline is sung each evening by house. The course concludes with sung Eucharist on Sunday morning and sung Evensong later that same day, both led by the Course combined choirs. At Evensong the houses each sing individual anthems and the service is frequently led by the dioscean Bishop.  Courses are led by some of the leading names in music in the Anglican communion, not only from the U.S. but also from Canada, England and Australia.
