Peterson Hostetler

Why do you feel called to serve on the Vestry?

Good Shepherd has been a wonderful church home for Winston and myself over many years and I’m looking forward to giving back in a meaningful way as we transition to our new Rector.

What gifts do you bring to the vestry?

I hope to bring a good attitude and a fresh perspective. I serve and have served on many nonprofit boards and hope to leverage that experience for the benefit of Church. I also hope that my experience in finance and fundraising are helpful as well.

Stacey Lang

Why do you feel called to serve on the Vestry?

I have been a member of Good Shepherd since 2012 and attended since 2009.  Philip and I were married here and both my boys, Philip V and Campbell attended Good Shepherd School.  They are currently acolytes and actively take part in the youth program.  In the past few years, I have felt a calling to be more involved.  I recently became a Lay Eucharistic Minister.  Serving on the vestry offers me the chance to continue to strengthen Good Shepherd for generations to come.  Hopefully, the decisions we make will continue to nurture the spiritual lives of all our members.

What gifts do you bring to the vestry?

I do not know if I bring any “special gifts” to the vestry, but I do bring a deep love and commitment to the church.  I am looking forward to serving alongside the other vestry members to continue to make Good Shepherd the special place that it is.

Jo Pine

Why do you feel called to serve on the Vestry?

I was sitting beside Andrea Aaron at church one Sunday when she asked if I would be willing to serve on the Vestry.  I was taken a bit by surprise, thinking younger members were needed to join with our new Rector to steer our church. A few minutes later we began to sing “Is it I Lord?”  The words, of course, are “Here I am, Lord, is it I Lord? I have heard you calling in the night.  I will go Lord, if you lead me.  I will hold Your people in my heart.”  I knew my answer had to be “Yes.”

What gifts do you bring to the vestry?

I have gained rich experience through involvement in numerous Church activities and studies.  In previous churches those included serving on the Vestry, teaching Sunday School, and chairing the Valle Country Fair, which raises close to $100,000 each year, for local outreach services in North Carolina.  At Good Shepherd I have just concluded several years serving as secretary and then chair of the Outreach Grants Committee, and I continue on the Linen Guild, chairing the Calling Caring and Carrying (CCC) Committee, and serving as a Lay Eucharistic Visitor.

From these experiences and through my training as a social worker, I have learned to carefully listen, hear words and feelings – to value what others say.  This is essential in leading people to work together to obtain what God has set out for us to do.  I am a highly organized and detailed oriented person.  You don’t need too many of us on a committee, but a few are invaluable.  I have a strong heart for serving others, both within our Good Shepherd community and beyond. I will strive to assure that Good Shepherd stays faithful to helping others who are lonely, homeless, ill, impoverished, and facing life-threatening factors.  As I am married to John Pine, I will definitely be supporting the care and beautification of our church property.  I hope that our church will explode with renewed dedication and with enthusiasm for many new initiatives in the next few years; at the same time, I will be keeping my eye on what we elders want and need.  It will be a privilege and joy to serve on your Vestry.

Philip Whitaker

Why do you feel called to serve on the Vestry?

Good Shepherd has held a special place in my heart throughout my life. My wife and I and two of our three children were baptized. there.  My paternal grandparents, my parents, and one of my children had their funeral services held there.  I have served Good Shepherd in various capacities over the years – an acolyte, an usher, and a verger, and I wish to continue to serve it in some capacity.

What gifts do you bring to the vestry?

I believe I have the wisdom and experience to serve as a productive vestry member. I practiced law for 36 years, and have served on the boards of a number of charitable organizations.  I am a good listener, and I believe I am a talented problem solver.
